I like to think of the first coat of paint as the ‘crumb coat’, like when you ice a cake. That’s all for now.

Painting a Freecycled chest of drawers and bedside table with beautiful, expensive Earthborn ‘Just White’ eggshell paint, while drinking Yorkshire Tea and watching James Bond be awesome in From Russia With Love on ITV4.
So, what are you doing with YOUR Saturday evening?

Heartbreakingly beautiful letter from a soldier to... →
“If the dead can come back to this earth and flit unseen around those they loved, I shall always be near you; in the gladdest days and in the darkest nights, advised to your happiest scenes and gloomiest hours, always, always, and if there be a soft breeze upon your cheek, it shall be my breath; as the cool air fans your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by.”

Observations on a car boot
If it had been cold enough to remove my gloves this morning, my tweets from my first car boot of the year might have read like this:
1: holy shit it is COLD *scrapes ice off car with broken CD*
2: the queue for the car boot is long. I thought the 0.5 degree temperature might have put people off. Then I remember I am in Yorkshire.
3: eggs, potatoes, root veg, stolen lawn mowers, dysons

Uncle Wilf
Used to time his cigarette breaks from the wool factory where he worked so he’d meet my 11 year old dad from school and have a chat with him. Everyday. Small kindnesses like that undo me. What a kind chap.

Sadly predictable
When following a link to the UK Government’s e-petition site today (to sign the cable theft e-petition), I began to browse.
The idea is that anyone can suggest a subject for discussion via an e-petition. If it gets 100,000 signatures, then MPs will debate it in Parliament.
An excellent recent example was the Full disclosure of all government documents relating to 1989 Hillsborough disaster...

Why be happy when you could be normal? →
Why indeed.
Want to read this a great deal. So much so, I want the actual physical non-Kindle version.
I’m happy. Don’t think I’m that normal either. And I’m happy about that too.

Dinner
Felt the urge for a Greek inspired dinner tonight. Sure it’s utterly inauthentic but can’t wait to eat it.
Mint and lemon lamb
Marinate the lamb steaks/escalopes in oil, juice of a lemon, zest and a few crushed cloves of garlic.
Cook under a smoking hot grill until cooked but still pink.
Serve with lemon and roast garlic mayo, potatoes and salad as follows.

The 2,660 mph train →
Been working on this at work for a couple of months now. We filmed a train drivers eye view of a 3.5 hour journey from the north east, through Yorkshire ending up at London Kings Cross.
Gorgeous seaside views. Fun fact: it took 3 days for the video to reduce down to 6 mins. 3 DAYS.

Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield
Students chattering outside Rhythm and Booze, no sign of Disco Tramp but others are sitting on his bench.
Next door playing the jazz flute, or perhaps it’s just the recorder again. Over and over.
The passage door slamming shut because the boys from the restaurant are playing musical chairs again, endlessly moving and stacking them.
Four girls and a boy are repainting the empty shop...

A text, the morning after a French martini...
Something is wrong, I just need a watermelon. I want to carry a watermelon then cut a little hole in it eat it with a spoon.
And I don’t want to get dressed and I simply need a macdo’s. Kate says if I’m quiet she will drive me after a sleep. I asked Kate to either ring nurse Kelly or an ambulance. I need a saline drip.
