When following a link to the UK Government’s e-petition site today (to sign the cable theft e-petition), I began to browse.
The idea is that anyone can suggest a subject for discussion via an e-petition. If it gets 100,000 signatures, then MPs will debate it in Parliament.
An excellent recent example was the Full disclosure of all government documents relating to 1989 Hillsborough disaster - which triggered a debate where MPs promised to disclose these in full.
